The Artwork I have chosen this week is by one of my favourite artists, Claude Monet an impressionist. The reason I like his work a lot is because the technique he uses is very different from many artists; he uses fast and short brush strokes, almost a dab, this gives the paintings a sense of realism by the way it depicts the light. This technique can be better seen in other artworks such as, "impression, sunrise" and makes Monet's work instantly recognisable. Some may think that it looks messy or not precise, but I think that the style of his brush strokes makes his art a whole lot more impressive, even though there are no clean lines in this painting you can make out every part of it. I also think the "dab" style brush strokes gives it a whimsical effect which makes the painting seem like a desirable place to be.
I chose this painting because the vibrant and warm colours really drew me in, he perfectly expressed a temperate summer day in his beautiful garden, which again makes it a desirable place to be and almost dream like. Monet often used his garden as a source of inspiration with a large body of his work being of his garden, sometimes he would paint family and friends into it but this specific painting focuses on the nature, which is another large influence of Monet's works. The way he directs the flowers diagonally from bottom left to top right makes it feel like you are scanning his garden and adds a level of realism but making you feel like you are there walking through it. As Monet is a famous impressionist this is painted from his opinion and I think that this style of painting is more personal than realism as you can learn a lot about the artist, for example from this I would view Monet as an optimist as he portrays such a perfect day.
I love the piece you have chosen it has so much detail into it, and that you talked about the artist who made the piece. You use very good words to describe the piece making you look more into the piece itself.
